Horizontal blinds.

Horizontal aluminum blinds are the most affordable and common type of blinds on the sun protection market. The ideal solution for the kitchen, large balconies, utility rooms. Due to the low cost, often such blinds are not repaired, but simply replaced with new ones, or another solution for protecting from light is chosen. If replacement is not provided, then, after a simple repair, it is possible to almost completely restore the original functionality of horizontal blinds.

The main malfunctions and their solutions will be discussed below.

First of all, hooks break - a plastic transmission unit that serves to connect the control cane to the swivel mechanism. If they break, it is necessary to replace the hook with a new one. You can buy this in any specialized stores, or by calling the numbers indicated on this site.

You can install the hook yourself, or use the service of a specialist. The procedure for replacing such a hook is shown by us in this video.

Less commonly, the control reed breaks. It can not be replaced if the blinds are not high. It is enough just to remove the tip from the fragment of the cane and reinstall it on the rest. If the cane was originally a meter or more long, then it can also be ordered, be sure to specify its dimensions when ordering.

A common cause of blinds breaking is the erasure of control threads. This is typical for large area blinds. And, unfortunately, it is inevitable. The larger the product, the faster the threads will fray. But don't be discouraged and throw your blinds in the trash. Any specialist will be able to change the thread to a new one as soon as possible. Not only do the cords change, but also the so-called ladders, on which the strips-lamellas of the blinds are located.

The flashing of the control threads takes place directly in the place where the blinds are installed and takes no more than 30-40 minutes for the average size of the canvas. Replacement of threads is possible not only for horizontal, but also for other types of blinds and roller blinds, which will be discussed in the relevant sections.

The next node, often requiring replacement, is the lower fixation block. The blind leaf is fixed to the plane of the window sash to prevent unwanted movement resulting from a draft, and to fix the blinds when the window sash is opened to the ventilation mode.

There are many types of blinds to attach to window sashes. Basically, these are plastic structural elements. Less often - iron, magnetic. Plastic elements are replaced with new ones, as well as hooks.

For roof windows, horizontal blinds are made with fixation on a cable. Springs are installed in the cornice body, the cable passes through the cornice and all the lamellas to the very bottom, where it is fixed with “g”-shaped brackets to the window sash. With this type of blind, a decrease in the tension of the cable is most often observed, or it can come out of the fixing grooves. The malfunction is eliminated by replacing the fixation blocks or brackets.

Also on the bottom bar is a plug for control threads and ladders. If the blinds are not used properly due to the increased impact on the thread, this element may fail. The thread will break and the fabric will skew. To resume normal operation of the blinds, the plug must be replaced with a new one.

Let's move on to the top of the blinds. On the eaves is the main mechanism for controlling the operation of the blinds.

It is usually enclosed in a transparent case and consists of two parts, a worm gear unit for the rotation of the cane and a block for fixing the control thread.

Both blocks can be physically damaged. The case may crack, or as a result of exposure to different temperatures, the flexibility of the "worm" will be disrupted. In this case, the blocks require replacement with new ones.

The photo shows how these blocks are arranged, and how control threads go through them. To fix the latter, a bronze roller is used, which clamps the thread, fixing the blinds in any position.

If the thread is swollen, which sometimes happens due to frequent wetting, then the distance between the bronze and plastic rollers in the thread block becomes insufficient for the threads to pass freely. Threads are blocked. Blinds cannot be lowered or raised. In this case, you need to replace the thread.

The ladder is attached to the eaves in a rotary block, which fixes it with special metal tongues. In the event of a malfunction in this unit, it is advisable to call a specialist, since independent intervention in the operation of this unit can limit the operation of the blinds (the slats will not be able to rotate).

Blinds are attached to windows (or to the wall) mainly on brackets.

Consider the photo below with fasteners. The 1st, 3rd types of brackets are used for fastening small canvases. The 2nd type is called "twist", the most acceptable of all types, as it holds the cornice better, but it may be over time fail due to broken rotating parts. The 4th type is the simplest and safest, suitable for products of any size. All types of brackets allow you to mount the blinds both on vertical, as well as horizontal surfaces.

Fasteners for metal-plastic windows are made by drilling holes with a diameter of 2 mm and fixing the brackets to the plane of the window with screws 9 mm long, which eliminates the violation of the tightness of any windows. (Only one extreme wall of the window profile is drilled).

The photo below shows the device for fastening the blinds to the "twist" type brackets.

The tongues of the bracket capture the profile of the blinds eaves curved in the upper part and press it against the bracket body. Thus, a strong contact is established, blinds are fixed quite rigidly.

Horizontal blinds are available in aluminum, wood, bamboo and plastic. Aluminum slats under mechanical stress usually bend while maintaining their original shape. But plastic or wood can break.

It is possible to replace the slats with new ones, but only their color will be distinguishable from the old ones, as blinds usually fade. This point should be taken into account when repairing.

Vertical blinds.

Vertical blinds are fabric, plastic, and less common rope and tulle. Fabric, or as they are often called - office, blinds allow you to inexpensively solve the problem of light regulation in any modern premises. Due to their wide distribution, they will be discussed in detail, but other types of blinds will also be given attention.

Let's talk about the simplest first. The fabric of the blinds, if it fades over time, or bends (from exposure to temperature changes), can be easily replaced with a new one. When ordering, it is enough to indicate the width and number of strips, the so-called lamellae, and the overall height of the product. Width can be 89 and 127 mm. This must also be taken into account when replacing the chain connecting the slats at the bottom of the blinds and the weights, serving for weighting and tensioning the lamellas.

Weights, like the chain, can be easily replaced with new ones. (Specify only their size - 89 mm or 127 mm). If you need to change the fabric, then it is usually equipped with new weights and a chain. But you can only change one fabric. This is discussed at the time of ordering.

It happens that when moving or after repair, it turns out that the height of the blinds does not fit the new opening. And trimming of the lamellas is required. We carry out any trimming to the height of any type of blinds.

Sometimes, over time, the threads or fishing line with which the lamellas are sewn dry out. The weights fall out of the pockets, and the hangers can no longer hold the fabric and it falls. As a result, a flashing of all lamellas is necessary. Our seamstresses and craftsmen will quickly and efficiently restore the original appearance of the blinds and they will serve you for many more years!

The fabric of vertical blinds moves along the eaves on elements called bogies. If even one trolley breaks, its replacement requires disassembly of the entire cornice mechanism. Therefore, such repairs must be carried out by a qualified specialist. Replacement of any element of the mechanism is usually carried out on site, for this, you do not need to take the cornice to the assembly shop.

The carts inside the eaves are connected to each other by plastic strips called distances. They can also burst or bend and, like carts, require disassembly of the entire mechanism.

The movement of carts along the eaves is carried out by a control cord. As with horizontal blinds, this cord can break over time. Its replacement is carried out by the master on the spot. This usually takes no more than 30 minutes.

The rotation of the slats on vertical blinds is carried out by a chain passing through the rotary mechanism at the end of the eaves. The chain almost never breaks. Occasionally, the plastic links of the chain crumble, and it stops working correctly, scrolls or gets stuck inside the control mechanism. If this happens, it can be easily replaced with a new one with plastic or metal links.

It often happens that the lamellas move, but do not turn, a breakdown may be in the mechanism block, gears or small control parts are broken. To fix the problem, you also need to call the repairman.

In plastic vertical blinds, the slats can fall off, usually because the top of the slat itself breaks. In this case, it must be replaced with a new one. The control mechanism inside the eaves may also stall. The repair of the latter is similar to the same repair for conventional tissue vertical blinds.

Tulle and Rope Vertical Blinds are designed like regular fabric blinds. Only in rope lamellas not from the usual continuous strip of fabric, but from many thin ropes. Tulle curtains are similar to ordinary tulle curtains, they move along with translucent plastic slats. Failure can only be in the control mechanism. Repair is similar to conventional fabric blinds.

Note that, as for horizontal, vertical blinds are presented in a large range of colors. The material of the lamellas comes not only in different colors, but also in different densities and transparency. Care and cleaning of blinds.

Blinds collect dust very quickly, so they must be cleaned regularly (at least 2-3 times a year).

Horizontal blinds can be cleaned with special brushes.

But usually they are washed in the bath or under the shower. After washing, while still damp, they should be hung back on the window and, having separated the slats, gently wipe with absorbent napkins or towels. It is advisable to clean in sunny weather so that the blinds dry faster.

Plastic horizontal blinds are more fragile than ordinary metal ones. Therefore, care must be taken when cleaning, otherwise the lamellae may break. In this case, you will have to change the entire product. Separately, no one changes or repairs lamellas for such blinds.

Vertical blinds are washable. (Except those made from bamboo or linen fibers). To do this, they need to be removed from the carts (hooks), remove the chain and weights, roll up and soak in soapy water. Stains can be treated with non-aggressive stain removers.

The fabric should sour for several hours, after which the blinds are washed under water and hung again on the eaves. If you immediately insert the weights, the slats will dry faster and will not curl. It is very important not to bend the fabric, as a trace will remain at the place of the bend.
